This microgrid project serves hundreds of villagers in a remote village in Ondo State, Nigeria. The electrification rate in some Nigerian rural areas is only 40.4%, and grid-connected households experience an average of nearly 7 outages per week. Hindered by high costs and long cycles of grid construction, villagers rely on costly and polluting diesel generators for basic power, resulting in limited opening hours for small shops and unavailable irrigation equipment for family farms. Vestwoods provides a microgrid solution consisting of 80kW solar PV and 200kWh energy storage. Solar generation covers real-time load during the day, and energy storage discharges to sustain power supply at night, realizing all-day stable electricity. The solution replaces diesel generators to reduce villagers’ power costs, while supporting agricultural irrigation and shop operation to meet local production and living power demands.
